Knob Noster State Park, Knob Noster, MO.

Fun in the Sunshine-Rain-sleet or snow (a Scout is prepared)

Open to all Lone Bear District (or other districts) registered Scouts, Webelos, Parents, and Leaders.

What is a Klondike Derby??? Boys are the "dogs" that pull their sleds from town to town. At each "Alaskan Klondike" town, they will be required to perform some team task that could call for a Scout skill or two, in order to acquire points or gold nuggets. Recognition and prizes will be awarded to the top teams.

Registration fee: each Scout $7.00

Check in

Check in will be at the bottom of the big hill just outside the entrance to the derby area. Signs will be posted. Vehicles will be parked at the parking area on top of the hill, and sleds should be walked down to the check in area to lessen traffic congestion.

Start of Derby

All sleds and participants should be checked in, and on the line, ready to go by the break away at "9:00 ish" AM. Get there on time.

Lunch Break

All teams are to take a lunch break and have a hot meal. Meals, such as "Scout meals", may be prepared at home and cooked over a fire while on lunch break. No canned meals. MRE type self heating meals will be available at no charge to each participant. Staff will be instructed to shut down their stations from around 11:45 to 12:45 in order for them to eat lunch. Staff should designate on the registration form if they will be eating with their troop, or with Staff.

Finish Derby

The derby will officially close at 4:00. All teams are to turn in their score sheets immediately upon completion of the course, and report to the check in area for placements and prizes at the appropriate time .

Awards and announcements.

At 4:15 (or as soon as scores are totaled) announcements concerning the remainder of events that follow will begin, and awards and prizes will be handed out to the high scoring teams. A flag lowering ceremony will take place at the end of the awards ceremony. All Scouts and leaders are to attend.

Campfire program

There will be a District Campfire program at 7:00 PM at the pre arranged campfire area. Special guests will be in attendance. Dress appropriately so you can enjoy the festivities. Bring lawn chairs, or something to sit on, in case of snow. All troops are to have at least one song and your best skit to contribute to the group. Staff will choose which Troops will present both a song and a skit. SPL's will be in charge of signing up their troops. Skits will be judged by the "Academy"; and "Special " OSCAR recognition will be given at the conclusion of the campfire.

 

                                           Time Schedule

Time schedules will be provided with the Leaders Guide, at Roundtable, and also at either of the two Senior Patrol meetings to be held prior to the event.

Sunday Worship Service

An interdenominational worship service will be held at 9:15 at the shelter house south of the top parking lot, or at the campfire area. Clean up from breakfast should be complete by 9:00 so that all can attend the service. Duty to God begins with being Reverent.

All Scouts, Staff, and Leaders are strongly urged to attend. A Scout is Reverent.

Leaders guides will be available at the December and January Roundtable. Please make copies in order to save paper. Each Klondike patrol leader should get a copy of the Leaders guide, and should become familiar with all the rules and guidelines.

 

                                              Rules

                                          A special meeting will be held for all SPL's  or their substitute. All participating troops are expected to send a representative. It will be held on two separate nights in order to allow all representatives to attend one of the two meetings. Full rules will be handed out, and much information will be passed along. This special meeting will be held in order to contact as many SPL's as possible, prior to the Derby, since many will not arrive till the morning of the event. The dates are subject to change, but as of now they will be Wed Jan 27, 2010 at 7:15 PM - and then for those that could not attend on that date, we will have a second meeting on Fri Feb 5, 2010 at 7:15 PM. Location will be at Sunrise Farm. See the map . Please RSVP to Jon Cerda at 660 429 2747 if you plan to attend. Points will be awarded to Klondike scores for attending troops.

GENERAL INFORMATION

REGISTRATION: Complete the Camporee registration form. Mail to Jon Cerda by January 29 or bring it to February Roundtable.

BOY SCOUTS will participate as Patrols working together participating in the various Klondike theme activities.

WEBELOS PARTICIPATION: The Webelos will be participating as Pack units and not as patrols or dens. The unit is encouraged to make a "Webelos Flag/ Banner for this event.

RECORD KEEPING: Each Boy Scout Troop and Webelos Unit must complete the enclosed Camporee attendance report.

This form must be turned in at registration with the staff.

Klondike 2010 RULES: The Scout Oath and Law shall be the code of conduct these days and always.

WATER: Bring water to the event. No water refilling may be available if they have turned off the hydrants.

"Above ground" fires are acceptable within contained fire rings. Fire water bucket must be within 20 feet of fire and fire must be

attended at all times.

TRASH: Practice low impact camping and take all trash home with you.

UNIFORMS: The Klondike Camporee is an official Scout function. All participants are requested to wear their class B uniforms throughout

 the event. Patrols (Webelos units) will be scored on uniforms at various Program Activity areas. Show your scout spirit & wear your uniform.

 ALL STAFF MEMBERS WILL BE SETTING THE EXAMPLE BY BEING IN COMPLETE CLASS "A or B UNIFORMS FOR THE WEEKEND - BOTH SENIOR

 AND JUNIOR STAFF GROUPS. Of course warm clothing is allowed as an outer layer.

EVENTS: Program events will include: Atomic Pioneering, Dodge ball, obstacle course, Super bowl,

 .177cal air rifles, Archery, and a campfire.

FIREWORKS: Absolutely no fireworks are permitted to be used by Scouts.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES AND DRUGS: No beer or other intoxicating liquors are allowed. Also, no drugs other than those prescribed by

a doctor are permitted. Anyone caught with or using alcohol or drugs will be required to leave. Anyone using illegal substances will be

reported to the proper authorities" NO Tobacco in any program areas.

PARKING AND MOTOR VEHICLES: All motor vehicles will be parked in designated areas. No vehicles will be allowed in any program area

campsite, except to unload and load equipment unless authorized by the Camporee committee. ANY DEVIATION FROM THESE RULES WILL

RESULT IN THE VIOLATOR'S CAR BEING TOWED AT HIS EXPENSE - or horrendous verbal abuse.

 

RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCES: The twelfth point of the Scout law is "A scout is Reverent." All Scouts Webelos, Leaders and participants are

expected to attend a religious service during the Camporee.

MEDICAL FORMS/ PERMISSION FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT FORMS: All Units are responsible for keeping and maintaining medical

forms and medical releases.

LANTERNS: No flame type of lights should be allowed in any tents. Have your Scouts use flashlights & battery operated lanterns.

LIQUID FUELS: All fuels are to be handled by responsible adult leaders only. It is the Unit Leader’s responsibility to make sure that everyone -

 both adults and boys - follows this policy.

KNIVES: No "Bowie styled" or other type of sheath knife is allowed. All Scouts and adults should use folding pocket knives only.

TRASH: The Knob Noster State Park is our home away from home. Please leave it cleaner than you found it. All trash should be contained

in plastic bags and returned home with you. Leave no evidence that you camped in your assigned campsite.

INSPECTIONS / JUDGING: There will be a campsite inspection on Saturday afternoon. The score will be in your unit’s total points.

GATEWAYS: All Units should identify themselves at the front of their campsite in some manner. Troop flags are a minimum.

VISITORS: Visitors are welcome at the Klondike Event, and are encouraged to come to Campfire.

SANITARY FACILITIES: Please use the provided sanitary facilities for your body's needs. We are very close to a lake and a stream and

 will have an environmental impact with undue abuse.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS: Specially designed Klondike certificates (5) will be given for Troops excelling in Scout Spirit, teamwork,

campsite cleanliness, and overall participation. Each Unit will receive embroidered patches which will be awarded along with beads of participation.

STAFF: Staff is an honor and your participation will be honored with the above awards, staff neckerchief and a special staff coup

for participation. The Lone Bear organizing committee requests that all staff members set the best of examples by leading their program,

activities, judging, communication and participation in accordance with the Scout Oath and Law.
